Kuwait Under Sustained Drone and Missile Attack Tonight — 33 Drones, 5 Cruise Missiles, HIMARS Units on Fire in Worst Strike Since June

Kuwait is under attack tonight. Iranian suicide drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles are striking the Gulf state in waves — in what Bloomberg has confirmed is the worst assault on Kuwait since Iran's devastating attack on Kuwait International Airport in June. Four Kuwaiti navy personnel are injured. Two American HIMARS rocket launcher units are reportedly on fire. And the US has promised the most intense night of strikes on Iran yet.

The Scale of Tonight's Attack

Kuwait's Ministry of Defense confirmed the assault involved five cruise missiles, one ballistic missile and 33 drones fired at Kuwait's military and civilian infrastructure overnight.

Four Kuwaiti navy personnel were injured in the latest wave of attacks on the Gulf state, which remains a key target for Iran as the US blockade on Iranian ports and coastal areas resumes and regional tensions escalate.

The General Staff of Kuwait's Army confirmed air defense systems were engaging "hostile aerial targets" inside the country's airspace, urging the public to follow safety and security instructions. Any explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting the attacks, authorities said.

What Iran Claims to Have Hit

The IRGC said it targeted a US surface-to-surface missile base in Kuwait, claiming it set fire to two HIMARS missile launchers and missile-packed warehouses, completely destroying them. The Iranian army also said it conducted drone strikes targeting communication systems, fuel tanks, a Patriot air defense system, a watchtower and an ammunition depot at a US military base in Kuwait. The attacks were carried out in response to "repeated US aggression against Iran."

The IRGC's specific targeting of HIMARS units is strategically significant. American M142 HIMARS platforms firing ATACMS missiles have formed a critical component of US deep-strike capability against Iranian military infrastructure throughout the 2026 conflict. Reports indicated that specific HIMARS units targeted in Kuwait played a substantial role in precision engagements conducted against southern Iranian targets on July 11.

Kuwait's Worst Night Since June

Bloomberg confirmed Iran's strikes on Kuwait are the worst since the June airport attack — an assault that killed one person, injured 63 others, destroyed terminal facilities and forced the temporary shutdown of Kuwait International Airport.

Tonight's attacks follow a pattern of escalating Iranian strikes against Kuwait that began on the very first day of the war on February 28. Since then, Kuwait has suffered strikes on Camp Buehring, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait International Airport, the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, power and desalination plants, naval vessels and border outposts. Kuwaiti authorities have confirmed a total of four soldiers and seven civilians killed, with 82 soldiers and 106 civilians injured since the conflict began.

The Wider Gulf Under Fire

Kuwait is not the only target tonight. Iran simultaneously launched attacks across the Gulf as part of its widest retaliatory offensive since the war resumed.

The IRGC said it targeted US military facilities in Bahrain's Juffair base — claiming it "targeted and destroyed several weapons-support warehouses, a satellite communications center and a building housing US forces." Bahrain's Ministry of Interior sounded sirens across the country, warning people to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.

The IRGC said it attacked Oman as part of its latest phase of retaliation, targeting long-range aerial radar and vessel detection radar systems. Oman summoned the Iranian ambassador to hand him a formal protest note following the targeting of sites in the Governorates of Musandam and Al Wusta.

Jordan's military intercepted four missiles that entered Jordanian airspace from Iranian territory. The IRGC claimed it targeted Jordan's Prince Hassan Air Base with missiles and drones, setting fire to fuel depots and ammunition storage facilities.

Trump Vows Total Destruction of Iran's Strait of Hormuz Capability

Speaking publicly on Monday July 13, President Trump made one of his most explicit military threats of the entire war.

"We're attacking them tonight, and we're taking out all of their capability for anything having to do with the Strait of Hormuz, and I think in a matter of a short time, it's going to be over," Trump said. He added: "We're going to hit them very hard tonight, and we're going to hit them hard tomorrow."

Trump also suggested the US would charge a 20% toll for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz — a proposal his own Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously described as "not even workable."

The Strait of Hormuz crisis has reached a point where only six ships sailed through the waterway on Sunday according to shipping data from Kpler — down from the approximately 21 vessels that transit daily in normal times. The economic consequences are cascading across global oil markets.

A War With No End in Sight

Trump told CNN the US and Iran had been close to "a deal" on Saturday — until Iran struck a container ship with a drone two hours after negotiations appeared to be progressing. "They were giving up everything, and then all of a sudden, two hours after that, they hit a ship with a drone. These people, there is something wrong with them," he said.

Israel was not involved in the latest round of US-Iran exchanges and is reportedly waiting for a greenlight from Washington to rejoin the fighting.

An Iranian conservative newspaper published online a list of 13 world leaders to be targeted — including Trump, Netanyahu, Hegseth, Rubio, Macron, Meloni and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz — alongside a statement from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowing revenge.

The Strait of Hormuz remains declared closed by Iran. The US blockade of Iranian ports is reinstated. Kuwait's skies are full of Iranian drones tonight. And the world is no closer to peace than it was 135 days ago when the first bombs fell.
