Israeli settlers launched fresh arson attacks against Palestinian communities in the West Bank on June 13, 2026

West Bank / Washington D.C. — June 13, 2026
On the day the United States and Iran appeared closest to finalizing a memorandum of understanding to end their months-long war, Israeli settlers launched fresh arson attacks against Palestinian communities in the West Bank — while senior Israeli officials declared the emerging peace deal an existential threat to the Jewish state.
The timing has set off an explosive debate about whether the violence on the ground and the political opposition in Jerusalem are part of a coordinated effort to derail the most significant diplomatic development in the Middle East in decades.
Reports emerged Friday June 13 of Israeli settlers setting fire to cars in the area near the West Bank Christian village of Taybeh — the latest in a series of attacks targeting the community. The reported attack is the latest in recent months to target Taybeh, where previously settlers allegedly set fire to cars in the area and tagged a building and a vehicle with graffiti. The town drew attention last year when US Ambassador Mike Huckabee visited following earlier instances of settler violence there. At the time, Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, denounced the arson attack as "an act of terror" and demanded "harsh consequences" for the perpetrators.
In a separate incident, dozens of Israeli settlers stormed various areas of the West Bank, set cars on fire and attacked Palestinians. A man and his child were attacked with sharp instruments in the village of Khirbet Shuweika south of Hebron. Israeli settlers torched a home in the village of al-Lubban Asharqiya south of Nablus. In Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah, settlers stormed the outskirts of the village, burned a citizen's vehicle and wrote racist slogans on the walls of houses.
The settler violence comes at an extraordinarily sensitive moment in the diplomatic process.
Senior Israeli officials quoted in a Channel 12 report said the terms of the MoU "endanger Israel's security interests" — as Washington prepares to finalize the deal with Iran that could end the months-long war.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu convened a security cabinet Sunday evening to discuss the emerging US-Iran deal, with sources close to the Prime Minister describing the terms as unacceptable to Israel.
Israeli settler violence has risen sharply in the West Bank under the cover of the Iran war — with attacks including arsons, shootings and beatings intensifying as international attention shifts to the Iran conflict. Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the head of Israel's military, condemned such attacks and said it was especially unacceptable during wartime for the military "to confront a threatening minority from within."
Is this a coincidence? Or is the surge in settler violence on the exact day the US-Iran deal reaches its final stage a calculated attempt to destabilize the region and give Israel's government grounds to reject the peace framework?
The answer to that question will define not just the future of the West Bank — but the future of the entire Middle East.
DeSanta News will continue to follow this developing story as the US-Iran MoU negotiations reach their conclusion.
